Since 1978, the Terra Foundation for American Art has sought to promote an international dialogue on American art via the formulation and exchange of new ideas. Besides supporting a variety of lectures, symposia, and scholarly publications through grants to institutions, the foundation supports individual scholarship by offering residencies, fellowships, and travel grants.

Fellowships & Academic Opportunities

The foundation’s fellowships, residencies, travel grants, and essay prize provide opportunities for individual development. Over the years, the foundation has awarded pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and senior scholar fellowships to individuals whose projects enrich the field of American art scholarship. The foundation's flagship fellowship program in Europe is the Terra Summer Residency.

Symposia

Terra-supported symposia, colloquia, and panel discussions create local, national, and international forums for the exchange of ideas and points of view. Check the calendar for upcoming Terra-sponsored events.

Publications

The foundation funds scholarly publications and texts related to symposia and exhibitions to disseminate new research and perspectives on American art.
